The Michael Allison Review | July 2000
Alan Horvath | Busy Being Born CD
There is no style of music that is more pure and true to ones soul than acoustic rock. Alan Horvath proves that with his spectacular album,
Busy Being Born. The music is truth and passion that is combined with powerful lyrics and excellent guitar work. The music almost takes on a sort of a psychedelic folk rock groove that contains the peacefulness and conviction of those times long ago. The cool thing about this album is that it contains no drums or other instruments that normally take your attention away from the lyrics and music. Alan has a style that simply allows the listener to free their mind and simply enjoy the music. It's not often that an artist can do that and it's something that Alan seems to do so easily.
The music that is presented on this album is refreshing and almost spiritual in it's own right. The songs are well written with an experience and style that can only come from a great talent like Alan. The simplicity of the solo acoustic and vocals present more power than a complete orchestra ever could. The songs on this album present a peaceful mood that transcends into sadness and then back into peace and joy. It's like a roller coaster ride of emotion. This is definitely one album that I'll be listening to a lot more of and one that I will share with my friends and family. 'Busy Being Born' is the one acoustic rock album that can bring new life to the genre and one that is destined to be a template for those to come.
Personal Notes:
This was one difficult CD to review because I liked it so much. When I say that the music frees your mind, I wasn't kidding. I simply got lost in the music and found it hard to concentrate on the review. There are two styles of music that I love and Acoustic Rock is one of them. The pure and soulful passion that goes into these songs is almost a spiritual awakening for me. I feel refreshed after listing to this music and in my mind, Alan does it better than anyone else. I truly enjoyed this album and hope to hear more from Alan in the near future. This is definitely acoustic rock that keeps it's roots. Real and Pure!
