January, 2011: My Truck Is Back From Paint
Three and a half years ago, I gave my truck to Buddy Miller (in New Egypt, New Jersey) to have the body restored and given new paint. After waiting all that time, my truck is finally back with a pristine paint job. Buddy did beautiful work on my truck and I couldn't be happier with the paint job. He also installed electric Bear-Claw latches on my doors (the perfect time to perform this particular project) and I'm very happy about that, too! What a difference it is to close my doors now!
That being said, Buddy Miller gets an A+ for his talents with painting, but he gets expelled for everything else! He
cut and
ripped out a number of wires under the hood and just left them hanging! My brake switch wires (torn out; plugs destroyed) ... my electric fan wire (cut and hanging) ... wire for the temp sender (ripped out and hanging) ... electric choke wire yanked out and hanging ... park lamp sockets destroyed ... I could go on and on!
It took me and a couple of friends hours to trace wires and figure out why I had no brake lights or turn signals, why my fan wasn't coming on or why my temp gauge wasn't working, why I had no headlights, why my choke wasn't working, etc., etc.
You know ... I wouldn't mind at all if he had told me, "I messed some things up; you'll have to fix this, that, and the other thing." But he just gave me the truck and left me to discover a ton of nightmares; leaving me on my own to trace wires and trouble shoot everything "in the dark." Sigh ... as a friend said to me,
"Welcome to the world of restoration!"
Anyway, after a few weeks of finding and fixing things, I've got all the electrical nightmares fixed and the truck is running like a champ.
Here are some pictures to check out. The color is Candy Cherry w/fine metal flake ... in the sunlight, the color looks like a light-colored Bing cherry ... at night, it looks like a dark-colored Bing cherry ... the front grill and tailgate letters are Gun Metal Gray.
