I found this 1954 Chevrolet pickup truck for sale on the internet ... talked with the owner on the telephone a dozen times ... bought it and had it transported from Humble, Texas to Milltown, New Jersey ... it arrived January 18th, 2003 and you can see what I've done with it since, via the "A's RIDE" drop-down menu at the top of this page.
Instead of buying a new car with monthly payments and high insurance rates ... and instead of driving around in something that doesn't make me feel anything ... I decided to buy something that would make me grin whenever I turned the ignition on, or whenever I stomped on the gas pedal.
When I got the truck, its rebuilt mid-70s Chevy 350 small block engine and 350 Turbo Hydramatic transmission had approximately 18,000 miles on them. The engine sports a new 4-barrel Edelbrock Performer 600 CFM carburetor with an electric choke, an Edelbrock Performer intake manifold, a mild Edelbrock Performer Hydraulic cam, HEI distributor, K & N air filter and Block Hugger headers. The independent suspension front end is a FatMan Mustang II with upper and lower tubular A-arms, manual steering and front disc 11-inch brake rotors and calipers taken from a 1982 Monte Carlo. The rear end is a mid-70s Chevy 12-bolt ... the gas tank was moved out of the cab area; a 30-gallon tank is now in the rear, under the bed, where the spare tire mount use to be. Those are Cragar S/S wheels -- 15-inch rears and 14-inch fronts ... and the color was Aztec Bronze Metallic; 1966 Chevelle, but now it's a custom Candy Cherry with a fine metal flake.
After getting the truck, I installed an aluminum trans pan, new rear brake pads, new Cooper tires all the way around and an electric windshield wiper conversion kit. Other projects are posted above, via the "A's RIDE" drop-down menu at the top of this page.
