November 26th, 2006 : Refabbed Steering Wheel
I've never liked this Cadillac Tilt/Telle steering wheel ... it just doesn't make any sense to a '54 Chevy Pickup and that cornball steering wheel cover is even more inexcusable. I plan on swapping it out for an IDIDIT Column with a '55 Chevy steering wheel ... but until then, this is what I've got.
I just finished installing a '55 Buick clock under the dash and that led me to so some interior work with black vinyl which matches the new armrests I just put in. I had some vinyl left over and tonight I had a sudden brainstorm to add a little more continuity to the interior with this black vinyl thing I've got going on ... so I went out to the truck and removed the center section of the steering wheel, brought it in the house and covered it:
And here's the final result -- it honestly surprised me; I didn't know it was going to make such a nice difference!
Update: I wound up doing this over, using moose hide on the center and elk hide on the rest of the steering wheel. I now have a steering wheel that is all leather -- See Here.
