Alan's Instruments | 2001 Oscar Schmidt Limited Edition Autoharp
[Back to Alan's Axes]
This is my 2001 Oscar Schmidt, OS110-21 Limited Edition Autoharp ... serial #0010320. I acquired it through my endorsement with Washburn Guitars, special-ordered via David Karon (Washburn's Artist Representative in NYC), and received it on March 2nd, 2001. This Limited Edition Autoharp has a solid spruce back, laminated spruce sides, with a flame maple top ... and has 36 strings with fine-tuners. It's quite bright, with a very rich and full sound -- you can hear what it sounds like right here:

I had an Oscar Schmidt pre-1970s (A model) back in the early '70s and enjoyed playing it until 1980 or so, when I parted ways with it ... I've missed it ever since. Fortunately, my endorsement with Washburn Guitars has allowed me to procure this one and I think it's going to mature into a very sweet sounding instrument -- that flame maple top and solid spruce back are gonna age real nice! The proper name of this instrument is
chorded zither. The name "Autoharp" is a product trade-name owned by Oscar Schmidt.
