A love song, for sure. Midnight ... Daytona Beach, Florida ... Lauren and I hadn't seen each other in seven years. We entertained a reunion of the heart ... danced in the surf and made love on the beach. But there was a problem that the song eludes ... as does this description. No matter ... suffice it to say, "she just would not let it be ... oh, no, she could not let it be ..."

I first met Lauren when I was 14 tears old ... sister to my best friend, Barry. It wasn't until I was 16, though, when I first ... well, er, ah ... when we looked in each others eyes ... and, 3 years after that, when I was living in L.A. and flew to Jersey to be Best Man at Barry's wedding (there was a moment when our eyes first met ... again, that has become one of those eternal moments) but she was back to college in Florida the very next day, and I was back in L.A. a few days later ... well, it always seemed to be like that with us ... like we belonged together, but were fated to be apart.

After that ... seven more years passed; I was 28 years old and we had both been through our own personal wars when fate threw us together one more time. We spent several days together ... troubled by something that had developed in Lauren's life ... something that shall remain private ... all culminating one night, on Daytona Beach ... and once again, we parted ways -- with the same feeling of indescribable elation; passionate magnetism; want; need ... unfullfilled; unallowed; unabated ... like an ocean that is simply too wide to ever be crossed.

I've re-written this song, it seems, everytime I've played it ... and, somehow, it still doesn't seem finished ... but it is.
