Track 1 on the Lord of the Rings CD ... Bilbo gives a party; his Eleventy-First (111th) birthday party, where he decides he'll pass the Ring on to Frodo. He decides to slip the Ring on and disappear in front of everyone, as his way of saying, "Farewell."

Like "The Ballad of Tom Bombadil," this was another "sleeper-song" from the original 'Rings Project - 1980, with Common Ground Music Group in Nashville, Tennessee.   I always felt it wasn't finished, and so I've been reluctant about this song ... I still am ... I'm not sure what it is, but that's the way it is.   This time around, I just dug in and gave it my best shot.

I play this one on my 1968 Gibson Hummingbird guitar and for this recording I added my 1986 Flatiron 3k octave mandolin to the arrangement ... and had some fun singing harmonies.

And the "G" is for "Grand!" ... I always get such a kick out of Tolkien's way of describing events and that line always stood out to me -- like "Thag you very buch" from The Hobbit ...
